At Lamar Elementary, Lisa Cortez Walden taught a weeklong workshop about migration through the elements of the monarch butterflies. Students learned about the importance of migration as well as ways that they could support monarch butterflies while they built a pollinator garden. At the end of the week, students shared their knowledge with the community at a community resource fair and celebration.

Productions: Detained in the Desert
As Atta Girl Productions, Lisa Cortez Walden was proud to produce the world premiere of Detained in the Desert, by award-winning writer Josefina Lopez.

This play explores what happens when a radio shock jock who spews hatred against migrants has rely on them in order to survive the brutal desert between Mexico and the U,S.

Events: Luminaria
Luminaria is a city-wide celebration of innovative arts in San Antonio. Lisa Cortez Walden was proud to be the Manager for the 5th annual Luminaria, a headline year that included over 150 artists, an exchange with our sister city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, as well as innovative 3D video projections onto the facade of the Magik Theater building.

Lisa Cortez Walden produced the videopoem, A Slight Discomfort: Echoes from the Clinic. This video highlighted several medical journeys by local artists and poets, including birth, death, and everything in between.
